Vaada honored to be a part of the Capacity Building Workshop on Non-Motorised Transport, 2012

The Capacity Building Workshop on Non-Motorised transport, 2012 was one of the major initiatives taken by GHMC, in association with the Vaada foundation, for making Hyderabad a pedestrian friendly city. Moreover, this workshop not only encouraged the need of increase in pedestrian facilities but also focused on enhancing safety facilities. The workshop was headed by the Commissioner of GHMC Mr.Krishna Babu. The workshop was held at the magnificent Jubilee Hall and involved many renowned personalities of the city. Present at the workshop were M Maheedhar Reddy (Minister of MA &UD Government of AP), Mohammed Majid Husssain (Mayor GHMC) , MT Krishna Babu (Commissioner GHMC), P.Suresh Raju (Vaada Founder), kanthimathi kanan (Right to walk Founder) Dr. Anvita Arora (Director and CEO of Innovative Transport Solutions Private Limited, New Delhi), Romi Roy(Senior Urban Designer, UTTIPEC), members of Delhi Development Authority, senior officials from GHMC, HMWS&SB, HMDA, APCPDCL, stake holders and consultants

The inauguration ceremony was performed by M Maheedhar Reddy (Minister for MA&UD, Government of Andhra Pradesh). Following, various present personalities and officials gave their views about the prevailing pedestrian and footpath problems in Hyderabad. M Maheedhar Reddy was greatly appreciated by the initiative taken by GHMC and Vaada for improving the city by all means. He also said that as the footpaths are being invaded mostly by hawkers or venders, it is becoming difficult for pedestrians. Along with the government, people should also realize this and support such organizations in making Hyderabad roads a place worth walking for pedestrians. Moreover, Minister also encouraged the efforts of the organizations by funding an amount of Rs. 777.55 crore for the road-related development, enhancement of pedestrian and bicycler facilities. Other aspects like road design, yearly expense on road development, resource estimation, etc. were discussed at the workshop. Vaada team felt greatly honored by receiving a token of appreciation, a reward for their efforts.
